THE DEVINE STATUES
(GRAECO-ROMAN)


1-      The Triad of Alexandria
It was formed in the reign of Ptolemy I to encourage Greeks to settle in Alex with the Egyptians. He formed a committee of priests included Manethon and other Greek priests to form the triad. They choosed god Apis (was worshiped in Memphis) and god Osiris to be the main god of the triad to become Serapis. The other members were Isis (the wife and sister of Osiris and the mother of Horus) and Harpocrates (Horus the child).


1-      God Serapis


-         White marble bust of god Serapis.
-         Represented wearing the Greek costumes (himaton - chiton).
-         Characterized by the Greek style, curly hair, heavy beard and two locks on his forehead.



-         Lime stone statue of god Serapis.
-         Discovered in Al-Fayoum.
-         Represented seated on the throne.
-         Wearing himaton and chiton.
-         With curly hair, 5 locks on his forehead and heavy beard.
-         Wearing the plenty basket on his head.
-         Missing parts of his body: right arm and a part of the left arm.


-         Lime stone head of god Serapis.
-         With curly hair and heavy beard.
-         The beard is painted in brown.


2-      Goddess Isis


-         A bronze statuette of goddess Isis.
-         Discovered in Shatby.
-         Represented in the Egyptian form suckling her son Horus.
-         Wearing a long garment and the Hathoric crown (the sun disk flanked by two horns of a bull).


-         Statue of Isis Pharia (one of the forms of goddess Isis in the Graeco Roman period).
-         Was discovered at Pharos Island (Qaitbay fort).
-         Represented with Greek hair style.
-         Wearing long gown with a knot in the middle of the chest (knot of Isis).


3-      God Horus (Harpocrates)


-         A bronze statuette of Harpocrates was dedicated to the museum by Khedive Tawfik.
-         The statuette is characterized by:
-         Egyptian features (the headdress Nms and placing his finger on his mouth)
-         Greek feature (the standing position, the gown in Greek style and the appearance of the folds).


4-      Other Gods and Goddesses


-         A bronze statutte of god Osirs.
-         In the Eyptian form.
-         Represented as a mummy with the two hands placed on his chest and holding the (nhh and hk3).
-         Wearing the 3tf crown. (white crown flanked by two feathers of an Ostrich)



-         A bronze statuette of goddesse Sekhmet.
-         Represented in the Egyptian form (a woman with a lioness head).
-         Sitting on the throne.
-         Placing the two hands on her thigh holding the symbol of life (Ankh) with her left hand.
-         Her head is surmounted by the sun disk and Uraeus.
